Two childhood friends. Two broken hearts. One impromptu road trip to get away from everything. That’s all this was supposed to be. Afterall, I’ve been living in the friend zone for years now. But hockey heartthrob Jasper Gervais isn’t looking at me like a friend anymore. And he isn’t touching me like one either. To his fans, he’s the handsome, talented athlete on TV. But to me he’s still the lost boy with sad eyes and a heart of gold. The man I’ve loved in secret for years. So when my life falls apart on my wedding day, it only makes sense that he’s the one to swoop in and save me. And when his world comes crashing down around him, I’m there to return the favor. But the more time we spend alone, the more Jasper doesn’t feel like a friend at all. He feels like everything I’ve ever wanted and thought I could never have. Our feelings aren’t straight forward though. They twist and turn around the pain of his past and the reality of my present. Jasper Gervais acts like he wants me. But after years of turning me away, he’s going to need to prove it.

  • Sloane Winthrop: Sloane is a 25-year-old ballerina who is about to marry Sterling Woodcock, a man her father has chosen for her. However, on the day of her wedding, she receives an anonymous email with a video of Sterling cheating on her with a stripper. Sloane is devastated and flees to the Wishing Well Ranch, her uncle's family ranch, where she meets Jasper Gervais.

  • Jasper Gervais: Jasper is a 27-year-old professional hockey player who was taken in by the Eaton family when he was a teenager. He has always been close to Sloane, but he has never seen her as more than a friend. However, when he sees how heartbroken she is after her fiancé's betrayal, he realizes that he has feelings for her.

Jasper has always been my heartbeat, and I still wonder if I’m his

  • Powerless by Elsie Silver is the third book in the Chestnut Springs series. It is a friends-to-lovers romance about Jasper Gervais, a hockey player, and Sloane Whitlock, a ballerina. Jasper and Sloane have known each other since they were kids, and Sloane has always been in love with Jasper. But Jasper has never seen her as more than a friend.

  • On the day of Sloane's arranged wedding, she runs away and Jasper is the one who finds her. They embark on a road trip together, and during that time, Jasper finally starts to see Sloane in a different light. He realizes that he loves her too, and they start a tentative relationship.

  • However, Jasper has a lot of baggage from his past. He was abandoned by his father when he was young, and he has a fear of abandonment. He doesn't want to get hurt, so he's hesitant to commit to Sloane.

  • Sloane is also dealing with her own issues. She's always felt like she's not good enough for Jasper, and she's afraid of being rejected by him.

  • Despite their fears, Jasper and Sloane slowly start to fall in love. They learn to trust each other and to open up to each other. They also learn to overcome their fears and to embrace their love for each other.

  • Powerless is a heartwarming and romantic story about two people who are meant to be together. It is a story about love, loss, and redemption. Elsie Silver's writing is beautiful and evocative, and she creates characters that are both relatable and lovable. I highly recommend Powerless to fans of contemporary romance.

“Your last name, Sunny. I really don’t like your last name.”
